My Design Origin

The purpose of this work was not just to write a story and make a layout, but to create a design that told the story and encapsulated my style at the time. It’s always tough to design for yourself. Making this was daunting at first, much like starting to design, so I chose to reflect this in the article titled “Can I design this?”

I used this title and these graphics to represent the story and my feelings throughout. The evolution of the story matches the evolution of the graphics. The cover of the magazine starts with almost nothing, just some colours and blank spaces ready to be filled. There are more and more graphics added and fewer blank spaces until the last page, which is left mostly blank. This page shows the confidence I’d gained and the space left for what I will create in the future.

Along with the story, the graphics also show my taste and style as a designer at the time, with minimal yet wacky and oddly coloured shapes and layouts. It shows who I was when I designed this and how I and all creatives and tastes as a whole change and evolve.
